We are so lucky that we get to see your beautiful works of art up close and in person. Thank you for sharing your quilts and allowing us to share them with others. Click on any picture for a larger view. Let us know what you think of our online quilt show!
This month’s block is a 16-patch with no y-seams. Everything is a straight seam in this block. However, you do need to pay attention to seam consistency to insure you get a 12 1/2 inch block in the end. Don’t forget to come in to Wish Upon A Quilt to pick up your block before February 10th to receive your next kit. How are you coming along with your blocks?
We are making and collecting pillowcases for The Women’s Healing Place of Wake County. Our goal is to provide around 100 pillowcases each month to the Healing Place so that each participant has something to call their very own and will know that someone cares for them when they leave the Healing Place. We have collected about 50 so far in January thanks to our great customers.
Annette Lew is using fabric from her stash for as much of the pillowcase as possible, adding just a few items from our sale room to complete the pillowcase. As you can see, any fabric works great! Annette is using a basic pattern and we have additional patterns available for FREE here to get you going.
David Brantly surprised us last week with an in-person visit and 22 pillowcases!Great to see you in person David! Thank you so much!
Wish Upon A Quilt is also donating $1.00 to the Healing Place for each pillowcase we receive. We hope to write a big check each month for this great organization! To donate, drop your pillowcases off at the store or send them to us in the mail at: Wish Upon A Quilt, 8817 Westgate Park Drive #104, Raleigh, NC 27617. Thank you for your generosity!
I must say that I have neglected blogging over the past couple of weeks. Not because I did not want to post, just not enough hours in the day. What has been keeping us so busy? We were exhibiting last weekend at the Quilting and Fiber Arts Marketplace. It was great to see so many of you there but for our non-local customers, I thought you might enjoy seeing what we have been doing. Here are a few pictures from our booth.

The best part of any show for me is meeting so many great people. It also gives me a chance to show some of the things I have made. One of my favorite bags is Amy Butler’s Birdie Sling , can you find it? My new favorite quilt pattern is the Perfect Ten and my latest quilt features fabrics from Heather Bailey’s Nicey Jane, see it all the way in the back corner? My good friend Susan Emory of Swirly Girls Designs loaned me the Megabits quilt using Sandi Henderson’s Meadowsweet, it was fun to hear all of the wonderful ooohs and aaahhhhs as people looked at the quilts.
Everyone at Wish contributed to making the booth a big success but Janice Pope and Cindy Massey had the great fun of joining me at the show! Janice is the owner of Anything But Boring and her Two Hour Tulip purse pattern was the top seller at the show. We also had her College Bound, Jewel Box and Circle in Square quilts in the booth. All of Janice’s quilt patterns are designed to be quick to put together but not boring! How do you like them?
Cindy Massey and Janice Pope
The Jewel Box quilt is the one in the left corner with a white background and 5″ batik charm squares. The College Bound quilt is behind Cindy and is made with 10″ and 5″ batik pre-cut squares. Yes, we have these in the store

If you haven’t seen the Accuquilt Go! in action, stop by the store sometime and take a test drive. What is on your sewing table today?
January 2010 is here and so are the kits for the “Y not?” Block of the Month program. Local customers can come in to get their kits. Online participants will receive their kits soon.
For those new to the program, we offer two ways to participate. One is by signing up online here. The other is to come in to the store each month to pick up your block. The in store fee is $12 and the January block kit must be picked up by January 10th. Sew the block together and bring it back into the shop between February 1st and tenth to get February’s kit for free. If you can’t make it in before the tenth then there will be $5 fee to collect that month’s block. The kits are all die cut and ready to sew. If you are used to sewing rotary cut pieces you may find you need to adjust your seam allowance by a thread width. The die cut pieces are not thrown off by rotary cutting inaccuracies, so you will not need to compensate in the seam allowance. You will need to use a scant quarter of an inch when sewing the kits to insure you get a 12 1/2 inch unfinished sized block.
We will be providing helpful instructional videos online to help you get your blocks done and we do not require that you attend a store meeting or demo to get your block. What could be easier? If you have any problems or questions please feel free to contact the block of the month coordinator. We are here to help you!
To successfully sew a y-seam, or partial seam, you need to sew from the seam instersection and avoid sewing seam allowances down. The next video steps you through the marking of the seam intersection and the first two seams of a y-seam.
Kaffe (left) and Batik (right) colorations for 2010 "Y-Not" BOM program.
In case you haven’t heard, sign ups for the 2010 Block of the Month program have opened up. We will be introducing Y-seams, or partial, inset seams in the “Y Not?” program. Half of the blocks feature y-seams and half give you a break from them. It’s a great way to learn how to sew these seams and how to work with parallelograms. All of the pieces in the kit are die cut for your convience. Just take your kits home and sew them up. Or participate online and have the kits shipped to you each month.
We will be posting helpful videos on the blog each month to help you get your blocks finished. So don’t forget to sign up the next time you’re in the store. Or register for online participation just select Kaffe or Batiks.
The kits will be available January 1 for in store participants.

Check your mat with your ruler to make sure the lines are accurate before using it to cut the extra wide widths. If it is not accurate you can double up rulers to cut the wider width strips.
We will be holding demonstrations in the store to help you get started on your settings. The first will be on Wednesday, December 16 at 6:45pm. We will be holding more sessions in January if December does not meet your schedule, or stop by the store where we can help you.
