DJ’s First Show and Tell – Brown Bear Quilts

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

DJ wrote to us: I was very excited to win the book “Painless Paper-Piecing” by Marjorie Rhine that you donated to the Capital Quilters Guild. This was my first show and tell, so that made the prize even more exciting. The book has many beautiful projects using a technique that I’m not experienced in. I can’t wait to get started!

By the way, some of the fabric that I used in my show and tell project I purchased from your shop.

I’ve attached some pictures of the quilt that I made and of the Growth Chart made from the scraps. The Brown Bear  quilt is the first quilt that I’ve completed in over 20 years (only one quilt prior to that), so I’m quite proud of it.

Don’t you agree that DJ should be very proud of these quilts. Tell us about the quilts that you are working on today!

Brown Bear Quilt and Growth Chart

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

DJ shared this fun Brown Bear quilt with us. It was the first quilt she has completed in over 20 years, so it was quite an accomplishment!  She used the leftover fabric scraps to make a growth chart, what a great idea! Thanks DJ! What do you do with your leftover scraps from quilts? Share your ideas by leaving a comment.

What has Mom been up to?

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Many of our customers have been commenting that they have not seen my Mom (Jan Vincent) in the shop in awhile. The reason is that she has been busy making shop samples! Here she is with her latest creation using Emily Cier’s pattern of Carolina Patchworks and the Brown Bear and Very Hungry Caterpillar collections. We usually give the shop samples that she makes to charity, but I LOVE this one so much, I might have to keep it. Or, maybe I can convince her to make one for me! I could make my own with this kit, but I haven’t had much time to sew lately.

I am excited that Mom will be visiting us on Wednesday of this week! Yes, she is dropping off another sample but I do plan to reward her with lunch and another project! Isn’t she a great Mom?

Quilt Market…the fun begins!

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

I’m writing from Houston, Texas, at the International Quilt Market. Did you ever wonder how quilt shops manage to have a completed quilt on the same day as the fabric arrives in the store? I always did and until Wish Upon A Quilt, I thought quilt shop owners were super fast quilters! Some may be, but for me, my market expedition starts at Sample Spree. This is a crazy event where quilt shop owners pay the vendors to shop for pre-releases of the newest fabrics so that we can get those shop samples made! That’s right….we pay to go in and spend money, lots and lots of money…so that we can buy bundles of fabric in order to make shop samples. And the best part is that we get to stand in this line for hours to get in because the fabric at Sample Spree always sells out very quickly!

I’m thrilled that I was able to get my hands on Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Andover Fabrics. The free pattern for this quilt will be available on their website shortly…enjoy! I think it was worth the wait, do you?
